A clarification. I'm not saying that the upside down world maps how maps are viewed in China, but rather that as we look at new situations, new cultures, really anything,we need to be mindful of the lens we use. If we look at the world map upside down, which for most of us is contrary to what we've typically viewed, it brings a new perspective. This new perspective merits our time and reflection, it helps to surface our biases, gain new insights into others' views and ways of thinking, and broaden our horizons. In light of our China study, this is my challenge to my students - to get outside the comfort zone, and examine things with a new perspective.

I was completely unaware that's how world maps were laid out in China!

Oh, ho! Are you in for a surprise! That schedule will last you about 2 days. Then it will start to look a lot more like the Atlanta schedule. Luckily, a few of the native Brazilian professors went easy on us the nights people had Samba lessons, Capoeira class or the night that Mengão played at Maracanã. Remind them that you're there for a true multicultural experience, not just an international education.

I was just reminded of what an awesome group of professors the GPMBA program has! And I remember those first few months where every class seemed so long and the days stretched on and on.

Fortunately, that doesn't last. By the end, you'll be amazed at how quickly it all flies by. Take lots of notes, not just about schoolwork, but about your travels, adventure, and each other. It'll be over before you know it. :(

Looks like you guys are going through the famous GPMBA grind. I went through it exactly two years back (unbelievable how time flies) and can vouch for the fact the fun has just begun. On the same note though to caution you so that you don't get complacent, the grind will get worse. What is worth remembering though is irrespective of how mich work you have don't forget to experience the samba schools, live on a boat in Paris and live the Parisian life, try the ahem "different" cuisines in china with your gpmbaers cause that's what thi program is about. I am sure you all will graduate as a family come dec 2011.

Cheers

Sahil
